PVWAT - Dust to soiling model - EGU2026
Amy Banigo presented the results of her doctoral thesis during the “Energy Meteorology” session (Session 2.1 “Energy Resources and Environment”) at EGU26, as an oral presentation.
The topic of her presentation was “Simulating Atmospheric Dust Impact on Photovoltaic Performance : A sensitivity analysis to guide modeling choices in a data-scarce region (1).”
Although the subject is very specific compared to other more general topics covered at EGU, Amy was able to exchange ideas with a few people working on soiling modeling, notably a participant from the solar energy industry (Reuniwatt) who was working on improving soiling modeling using a hybrid approach combining a physical model and a machine learning approach.
Amy also attended numerous sessions on hydrology that highlighted short-term forecasts of water stress in many regions of the world, reinforcing the importance of our research on the water footprint of photovoltaic panel cleaning, particularly in West Africa.
