NETWAT present at ERCA and EGU

In 2025, Amy Banigo and Amélie Solbès presented their PhD’s projects at ERCA (European Research Course on the Atmosphere) and at the General Assembly of the European Geosciences Union (EGU).

ERCA is a winter school on the atmosphere in Grenoble, bringing together PhD students from all over Europe and beyond, and focusing on a different theme each year. This year at ERCA, the focus was on the study of aerosols, echoing the scientific questions developed in NETWAT. Participants also carried out a work project to practice setting up a research project while applying the principles of open science and reproducibility. Amy and Amélie presented their thesis work during the poster session.

  • Banigo, A., B. Hingray, L. Crochemore, B. Marticorena, PV Production in West Africa : impact of dust and water footpri of cleaning operations, ERCA school, Poster
  • Solbès, A., Prediction of the solar irradiance for solar energy management in West Africa, ERCA school, Poster

At EGU, Amy and Amélie took part in their first international conference :

  • Amy held her PICO presentation “Photovoltaic production in West Africa : Impact of dust and water footprint of cleaning operations” in the session Aeolian dust : initiator, player, and recorder of environmental change (CL4.14).
  • Amélie presented her poster “Evaluating Global and Regional Weather Models for Solar Energy Forecasting in West Africa : A Case Study in Burkina Faso” in the Energy Meteorology session (ERE 2.1).

They met up with ERCA participants at the EGU and Amy shared dinner with her session participants.
